Fantastic Invention
Film Posters from Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland
11—23/12 2015
Curated by Martin Maryška and Marta Sylvestrová (Moravian Gallery in Brno)
The exhibition features artists: eg. F. Starowieyski, R. Cieslewicz, Z. Ziegler, I. Orosz, and their 1950–1980s poster works for domestic and foreign film productions from the collection of Moravian Gallery in Brno.
Running out from the communist censorship, many talented artists found refuge in graphic design and illustration and influenced that by their rich liberated imaginativeness (whilst independent from commercial pressures typical for the West). Thanks to the fact, Central European graphic design, using mostly collage or illustration and characterized by mesmerising visual intensity and witty ingenious concepts, are the most inspiring ones within overall contemporary global context.
These posters open gates to parallel worlds of fantasy, phantasmagoria, absurdity, horror, oddity, fairy-tales, and dreams...
