Hüseyin Arda: CUBUS OF LIFE —
The « Cubus of life » is an interactive urban art project presenting video and metal installations.
Hüseyin Arda is an international artist known for his colossal metal sculptures and conceptual works produced in Istanbul and Germany.
Working with Iron, deliberately rusted, the artist says his works are inspired from the Japanese performance art “Butoh” and the productions of the famous film director Akira Kurosawa. Like in the “Butoh” theatre Arda’s big scale sculptures impose their power and dynamic from a tensed minimal movement.
Hüseyin Arda has participated as well as organised many international projects in Europe and was one of the initiators of the famous Berliner art house “Kunsthaus Tacheles”.
The artist organised and produced the project “Woerter für Deutschland” (Words for Germany) from 2003 to 2007, installing 21 giant word sculptures throughout several German cities.
Some of his renowned word sculptures are currently being shown in Berlin: “EINHEIT” (unity) at the Deutsches Historiches Museum (Historical Museum of Germany), “ERINNERUNG” (remembrance) at the deutsches teknik museum (German museum of technic) and “LIEBE” (love) at the Berliner art and culture centre: Kulturbraurei .
In the German city of Heidenau his “MITEINANDER” (together) word sculpture, stands against xenophobia and for a better communication since September 2015.
Within the frame of the “Istanbul cultural capital of Europe 2010” events he has installed the beginning part of a famous poem from Orhan Veli as a labyrinth, a giant-12tonnes-installation exhibited at the Golden Horn.
The artist has been teaching at the Istanbul Technical University fine arts department in the years 2010/2011 as a guest lector.
